How Mine

The How Gold Mine, located near Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, was first discovered in 1941 and has been in operation as an underground mine since 1950. The mine consists of underground workings accessed through two shafts, with a maximum subsurface depth of 550 meters (1,804 feet). The mining method employed at the How Gold Mine is open stope, where the ore body is accessed through vertical or inclined slots known as stopes.
During its peak production in 1982, the mine had a capacity to process 400 metric tons of ore per day, with a production unit cost of 38.36 US dollars per metric ton of ore. The ore body at the How Gold Mine is irregularly shaped and spans a length of 500 meters (1,640 feet) and a width of 550 meters (1,804 feet).
Additional geological, geographic, and historical information, such as the specific characteristics of the ore body, regional geology, and historical significance, is not provided in the original description.
